The first large marine creature I encountered
in the waters of Ishigaki Island
was a manta ray.
Its slow, wing-like movements through the water
were both powerful and graceful—
a presence so overwhelming
that all I could do was look up in awe.
In that moment, I was completely captivated.
The life I live now, painting the ocean,
began with that encounter.
This piece captures that origin—
expressed through the softness of watercolor.
Within its gentle gradients and open space,
I hope you can feel the quiet vastness of the sea.
